STARSkate – Junior and Intermediate

STARSkate — Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition — this is what STARSkate is all about! STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format.

Jordan offers a full range of programs for skaters wishing to continue the sport of figure skating beyond the recreational level. The Skate Canada Test System allows skaters to have their skills assessed by an evaluator who will judge their performance against national standards. Unlike the informal testing and badges of the recreational programs, skaters trying tests must normally wait until a scheduled “Test Day” – usually about 3 times per season.

STARSkate Junior and Intermediate
Skaters who wish to continue in a group program while they focus on the skills needed for Figure Skating may enroll in the STARSkate Junior Group after completing Badge 4 of the CanSkate program. In Junior, the skaters will continue working on Badge 5 and Badge 6 (crosscuts, edge development, one foot spins and jumps, perimeter stroking etc.) Skaters are also introduced to interpretive skating as they create and perform short programs to music. Skaters are presented a CanSkate club medallion upon completion of the Junior Group program.

Skaters who wish to continue learning their figure skating skills in a group lesson format may then enroll in the Intermediate Group. This group focuses on the skills required at the SkateCanada Preliminary level of skills, free skate and dance. It is a great addition for skaters who purchase free skate ice or skate on the development synchronized skating team.
